How to Reset PC Using Windows 10 Cloud Download

Microsoft has included a ‘Cloud Download‘ feature while reinstalling or resetting the Windows 10 on your system. It implies that each time you choose to Reset your PC, Windows will give you an option to download the latest copy of Windows 10 from the cloud aside from your local copy of Windows 10.

This sounds a handy way to get yourself the latest copy of Windows 10. It mimics the ability that macOS users have when resetting their devices by connecting to macOS cloud servers.

To fix various Windows 10/11 problems, we recommend Outbyte PC Repair:
This software will repair common computer errors, protect you from file loss, malware damage, hardware failure, and optimise your computer for peak performance. In three simple steps, you can resolve PC issues and remove virus damage:

  1. Download Outbyte PC Repair Software
  2. Click Start Scan to detect Windows 10/11 issues that may be causing PC issues.
  3. Click Repair All to fix issues with your computer's security and performance.
This month, Outbyte has been downloaded by 23,167 readers.

With the cloud download feature, users do not have to reinstall Windows manually when they experience issues. Instead, they can request a copy of their operating systems from the cloud.

Microsoft cloud download has passed the beta stage and is first available on Windows 10’s 20H1 Update. This update is available for everyone after May 2020.

How Cloud Download Feature Works?

The Windows has its recovery options, including the hard reset and image recovery. The notable improvement in Microsoft came with the introduction of the “Imageless” recovery.

Though the imageless recovery was a bit useful in recovering windows, some users experienced challenges in Windows recovery. These challenges were common, especially when the installation media was in a bad or corrupt state.

Another common drawback of Imageless recovery is that you should have the latest updates to your Windows 10. Otherwise, you will not be able to recover your Windows 10 OS.

The new cloud download addresses all these drawbacks.  Instead of searching for the installed Windows version on your computer, the cloud download navigates through the Microsoft servers for the windows installation files.  Cloud download is easier and seems like creating a USB bootable media with the latest version of Windows 10 and installing your windows with the drive. But you don’t require a USB media installation with a cloud download.

According to Microsoft, the reset process will likely take 40 mins or longer. At this time, windows will download the files from the server then switch to the Windows Recovery Environment. It will also download all drivers from the installed windows system that ensures your system keeps running. The download and Update also include OEM installations such as preinstalled apps. For cloud download, don’t expect it to remove all files on your computer as you may still require a Fresh Start to delete those files.

How Cloud Download will be Available?

The Cloud Download feature would be available as soon as the user updates their Windows 10 to the latest feature update i.e. Windows 10 version 2004 or 20H1. The feature will also be available in Windows recovery environments. So if your PC fails to boot up, you can use the cloud download feature to fix it. For the issue, you’ll select the “Reset This PC” option in the start environment. Choose the option of cloud download to reinstall your Windows files to an uncorrupted and bootable state.

Also, when using the function, you should use a wired internet connection. This is because the wireless internet connections are dependent on the PC’s installed drivers that are unavailable in a windows recovery environment.

Use Windows 10 on Cloud

Microsoft has provided a way to use Windows 10 on the Cloud using Azure. So what is this buzz about cloud desktop?

A Cloud Desktop provides almost the same functionalities as the traditional desktops, but unlike traditional desktops, the operating system, files, applications, settings, and other data required to run the PC are stored on Cloud rather than PC’s hard disk.

With Cloud Desktop, you can run your PC anywhere and anytime provided high-speed internet connectivity. This would make remote working easy and may increase your work efficiency.

Windows Virtual Desktop

On September 30, 2019, Microsoft announced that Windows Virtual Desktop, the cloud-based service, is available to everyone. The Windows Virtual Desktop provides simplified management, multi-session Windows experience, support for Windows Server Remote Desktop Service, an optimized Office 365 ProPlus, and more.

Using Windows Virtual Desktop, a user can virtualize its Windows environment on Azure very conveniently.

The best use of this feature is for Windows 7 users. Since the support for Windows 7 is over from January 2020, the users who could not immediately switch to Windows 10 can continue using Windows 7 with free Extended Security Updates (ESU) till January 2023 using Windows Virtual Desktop.

Conclusion

So, this was all about Windows 10 Cloud download and Windows cloud-based Virtual Desktop. Since the future of computing would be mostly cloud-based, it is a welcome move of Microsoft to provide Windows users the cloud experience. However, this is just a starting; they have to cover a long path to provide a more optimized and worthy environment to attract more further users.

  1. What do I do? Windows Cloud. I don’t have a wired connection. Live in country and the only choices were ATT and Hughes net (tried both and terrible service) and Consumer Cellular which has a 55 gig cap on data (I use more than that) and the throttle speed after that is below 100. I use Verizon hot spots (not cheap) with the throttle speed being at least 600.
