Windows 10 Tutorial: Find The Health Of Your Battery

Believe it or not, Windows 10 comes with a very capable battery report tool that is strangely hidden away. It can tell you everything you need to know about the battery in your laptop or portable device.

Including statistics like battery life estimate and its capacity over time.

To fix various Windows 10/11 problems, we recommend Outbyte PC Repair:

This month, Outbyte has been downloaded by 23,167 readers.

Sure, there are some third-party software programs that can also provide some of this information, but the operating system itself can generate a rather comprehensive battery report — without the need of any additional tools.

You will need to use a powercfg command for this, though, in order to find your battery’s health and optimize the battery life of your computer.

Do keep in mind that an HTML battery report will be generated here.

To get started, hit the Windows + X keys to bring up the Power Menu and bring up the Command Prompt as an administrator by selecting the Command Prompt (Admin) option.

Type in powercfg /batteryreport in the window that opens.

This command will create a battery report in C:\Windows\system32\battery-report.html.

In older versions of the OS than Windows 10, this will actually be saved in the C:\Users\[Username] location.

Simply open the HTML file to view it.

The page basically gives you more information about the batteries you have in your system, and now they have been used over time. Plenty of useful details are provided, including battery life estimates, and how long you can expect your battery to last based on actual usage.

You can also find out how your battery has changed since you first installed Windows.

All this data here is more precise than relying on the battery icon in your taskbar, which only provides a basic level of information on the health of your battery.
