Windows 10 Tutorial: Restart Computer

Ah, restart. Previously one of the most useful commands in Windows, and something that still comes in handy in this day and age. Windows 10 comes with myriad different ways to restart a computer.

Restarting, of course, closes all apps, signs out all users, and reboots Windows on your PC.

To fix various Windows 10/11 problems, we recommend Outbyte PC Repair:
This software will repair common computer errors, protect you from file loss, malware damage, hardware failure, and optimise your computer for peak performance. In three simple steps, you can resolve PC issues and remove virus damage:

And even though the operating system is now much more streamlined (in that it does not require a restart after installation of every software or program), and much more stable (only occasionally develops system errors that require reboots), users are still required to restart every now and then.

Particularly, when deploying updates or uninstalling a software.

The easiest way to restart is perhaps from the Start Menu, where you can click or tap on the Power button and select Restart from the options provided.

A handy little keyboard shortcut is pressing the combination of Win + X, and then the U and R keys.

But the most classic way remains the Alt + F4 Shut Down Windows dialog box, which lists a dropdown menu with multiple choices, including restart. You will have to make sure that you make the desktop the active window, or the current focus, rather, as pressing Alt + F4 in another program will close that app.

Windows 10 also provides the ability to restart by pressing the Ctrl + Alt + Del key combo, which is another classic trick.

Simply tap on the Restart option provided near the bottom.

There are a couple of other ways to restart your device, including typing the shutdown /r command in Command Prompt. However, the ones listed above are the most common and simpler ones that are available in the operating system.
